Dakota Fanning has signed on for the title role in “Effie”, the Emma Thompson-scripted biopic about Euphemia ‘Effie’ Gray says Deadline.
Effie was a teenager who married famed London art critic John Ruskin (Greg Wise) in the 1850s. The marriage turned out to be a disaster with Ruskin refusing to consummate it. Effie eventually turned her affections to Ruskin’s protege John Everett Millais (Tom Sturridge).
Saoirse Ronan was previously linked to the role. Thompson will portray Effie’s mentor Lady Eastlake. Also starring is Julie Walters and Derek Jacobi as Effie’s parents and Edward Fox as Lady Eastlake’s husband.
Richard Laxton is directing and shooting kicks off October 17th in Scotland, London, and Venice.
