It’s been an unusual journey for the Texan football drama “Friday Night Lights”, and now it’s about to take another step.
It started life as a well-performing and well-received 2004 movie starring the likes of Billy Bob Thornton, Garrett Hedlund and Lucas Black.
Then NBC picked it up and turned it into a series starring the likes of Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Taylor Kitsch and Adrianne Palicki. While the audience numbers weren’t strong, the reviews were stellar and those who were watching it were loyal.
Instead of dumping it at the end of the second season, a deal was struck with DirecTV and the show continued on with three more seasons, capping off with the series finale which aired on NBC this past week.
Now, TV Line reports that the original film’s director and the show’s executive producer Peter Berg is pushing forward with plans to bring the property back to the big screen with the members of its small screen cast.
The report claims the new movie “will pick up right after the series’ finale and will center on Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and Tami (Connie Britton)”. A rep for Universal Pictures however says “We do not currently have a Friday Night Lights project in development yet.”
