TV News: Spartacus, Anarchy, Hannibal, Kumar

Spartacus
Starz has renewed its blood, sex and togas drama “Spartacus” for a third season – several months ahead of the premiere of the second season ‘Vengeance’.

Liam McIntyre, taking over from the late Andy Whitfield, will make his debut in the title role on January 27th. [Source: The New York Times]

Sons of Anarchy
Kurt Sutter, the creator of FX’s “Sons of Anarchy”, has asked the cable channel to order an extra episode for the current fourth season and they’ve agreed.

Sutter reportedly requires the additional installment to appropriately wrap up the current season’s storylines. The new season finale will now air on December 6th. [Source: tvseriesfinale.com ]

Hannibal
Gaumont International Television has set up hourlong drama “Hannibal” at NBC, a procedural drama based on Thomas Harris’ iconic literary and film character Hannibal Lecter.

Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisies”) is developing a script against a 13-episode commitment – if the studio execs like it the show will go straight to series rather than shooting only a pilot. [Source: Deadline]

Harold and Kumar
Lionsgate is currently shopping around a new “Harold and Kumar” animated series which will feature John Cho and Kal Penn voicing their title characters.

Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who penned this past weekend’s third movie featuring the two characters, will write the pilot script. Several networks have already expressing interest. [Source: MSNBC]
