Fox Planning “The Beach” TV Series

20th Century Fox TV is planning a dramatic television series based on Alex Garland’s 1996 novel “The Beach” reports Deadline.

Garland’s book, described as a Generation X take on “Lord of the Flies”, follows a young traveller in Bangkok who encounters a strange Scotsman who tells him of a supposedly hidden beach located on an island in the Gulf of Thailand that is inaccessible to tourists.

Together with a young and beautiful French couple, they find the beach where a self-sufficient community has developed and almost completely shut itself off from civilization.

Andrew Miller, who co-ran The CW’s cancelled “The Secret Circle”, is penning the series adaptation. Danny Boyle helmed the film adaptation of the book in 2000 which starred Leonardo Di Caprio, Tilda Swinton and Guillaume Canet.
