GreenTech Exchange (GTEx) is delighted to launch our Vancouver Island Chapter in this inaugural forum.
New projects are underway to enhance renewable energy solutions and distribution for Greater Victoria and Vancouver Island. Two principals from Sea Breeze Power Corp. will share their insights regarding some of the renewable energy projects on Vancouver Island. This includes a background on the Cape Scott Wind Farm project (formerly called Knob Hill) and the proposed Juan de Fuca Cable Project.
The Cape Scott Wind Farm is a 99MW project with 55 wind turbines located on the northern tip of Vancouver Island; it was the first wind energy project to be approved by the BC Environmental Assessment Office. The Juan de Fuca transmission project is a new 550 MW undersea cable that will link Vancouver Island with Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula. It utilizes a high voltage direct current transmission technology that supports Smart Grid technology and is environmentally friendly. These projects act as a cornerstone for the expansion of the renewable energy industry in both British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest.
