Michael Corrigan has been named the new CEO and President of BC Ferries.
Corrigan has been working for Crown corporation for the last nine years as chief operating officer and executive vice president of business development.
He replaces David Hahn, who resigned earlier this year.
The company also announced it was doing away with the controversial long-term bonus program for senior executives, which sees Hahn leave with nearly a million dollar pension.
Corrigan and three other executives will receive a one-time payment instead of long-term benefits.
BC Ferries says the new plan will save the company approximately $ 700,000 a year.
Corrigan’s former role as COO will be eliminated, saving a further $ 600,000 a year.
Before joining BC Ferries, Corrigan worked for Westcoast Energy in B.C. and Ontario.
He also played for the Detroit Red Wings organization in the early 80s.
