Justice Minister Shirley Bond is welcoming a move by Ottawa to give the RCMP more power to fire bad apples.
Bond says she got a personal heads-up from her federal counterpart Vic Toews on Wednesday night.
“I’m very pleased to see at least a response being made and Mr Toews assured me that this is the kind of step we need to take in order to give our deputy commissioner and the commissioner of the RCMP the tools they need, so certainly think it’s a very positive first step.”
But Bond admits many people will be frustrated the change will not be retroactive.
