BCTF update

The BC Teachers’ Federation has postponed a vote to determine the next course of action, in their on-going job action. BCTF boss Susan Lambert says with the union’s AGM next weekend, they postponed a vote…and instead, will continue on with phase one job action. Lambert says for districts that do have classes next week, no decision has been made yet on whether to walk off the job for one day — as allowed by the LRB.

“There will be obviously 48 hours notice if we decide to do that one more day, but at this moment we are deciding to stay the course.”

That means classes are on Monday and Tuesday. But a decision could be made tomorrow, when the union executive meets again. A key issue for the union when making that call? Different spring brreaks for different school districts. And that means, some teachers would lose a day’s pay — while others wouldn’t.
