VANCOUVER – Family members of Metro Vancouver murder victim Maple Batalia have reached a key goal as they work to honour the memory of the accomplished actor, model and aspiring medical student.
Simon Fraser University says the Batalia family established a $ 10,000 bursary fund just before Christmas, and that fund has now reached its goal of $ 50,000.
That’s enough case to create an annual bursary for students in SFU’s newly established faculty of health sciences.
Batalia was studying in that faculty and friends say she hoped to be a doctor, but she was shot and killed Sept. 28, in an attack in a parkade near SFU’s Surrey campus.
She would have celebrated her 20th birthday on March 4.
No charges have been laid in connection with the fatal shooting.
