In the wake of a larger than expected drop in students in the district, the Vancouver School Board is looking into ways of tracking enrolment.
The board expected enrolment to drop by about 500 students this year.
Instead, preliminary numbers indicate it could be over 700.
Chair Patti Bacchus says the board is now looking into ways to track that information and find out the reasons for students leaving the district.
“We’d like to know, what are the reasons people are leaving the system? Where are they going? And are there issues we could address that would encourage families to stay in the system or are there things we need to do better to keep them in the system?”
Bacchus says the grade 10-12 range has been most hit by the departures.
