Canucks fishing, climbing mountains as NHL lockout drags on

While hockey fans wait for any movement to end the so far 11-day-old NHL lockout, one of the most popular Vancouver Canucks is killing time fishing and chatting with the morning crew at CKNW’s brother station, CFOX.

Host Jeff O’Neil: “Morning, Mr. Bieksa, I understand you’re fishing.  Are you fishing right now?”

Kevin Bieksa: “I’m just driving to the mountains in Alaska. Just going for a little cruise and I’m going to climb McKinley, I think, a little bit later.”

O’Neil: “Trying to keep busy, huh, nothing else going on?”

Bieksa: “No big deal.”

O’Neil: “No big deal!” (ends on laughs)

Bieksa says players are notified via text message and email on the latest developments on the labour dispute.

He adds he’s not ready to leave Canada to play in Europe, saying he’ll wait until closer to January to make that call.

Players and owners haven’t exchanged proposals since Sept. 12.

The key issue remains revenue sharing.
