The Vancouver Aquarium’s veteranarian has performed a full necropsy on white sided dolphin, Spinnaker, who died on Thursday morning.
But it is still unclear how the dolphin died.
Vancouver Aquarium veteranarian Doctor Martin Haulena says the necropsy results are inconclusive.
And that means, they need more in-depth testing, which can take some time.
“……The biggest one is called histopathology, and that involves taking a microscopic look at all the tissue samples we took yesterday. We will also be doing some microbiology, and some toxin analysis.”
Spinnaker could have died from a gastro-intestinal illness, cancer, or bone marrow issue.
The 26 year old dolphin was recovering from gastro-interitis and was under 24 hour supervision right up until a few weeks ago – but was doing much better.
