Charges have now been laid after the mother of a newborn baby was assaulted while resting up in the maternity ward at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Saturday.
30 year old Daniel Archibald Frank is charged with assault and breach of probation.
The mother had the baby in her arms when she was hit on the head.
Police say the baby was not hurt and the mother is going to be okay.
