Charges laid in Vancouver axe attack

Charges have now been laid in an axe attack this week in Kitsilano.

A 39-year-old man was taken to hospital on Tuesday with cuts to his head, neck, hand and arm after he was struck with an axe in the 2700 block of West 4th Avenue.

Another man – whom police say is the victim’s roommate – was found hiding in his car and later arrested.

Now, 43-year-old Engbert Yonkman of Vancouver faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Police say he has a lengthy criminal record with various offences dating back to 1989.

He is set to appear in court July 11.
