Charges stayed; court delays blamed

Two assault charges against a Surrey Mountie have been stayed.

A judicial stay of proceedings has been entered in Surrey provincial court in the case of Constable Imran Saeed, because the case took too long to come to trial.

The 30-month delay means saeed will now face an internal RCMP investigation.

The constable was charged with two counts of assault, in connection with an on-duty incident back in May of 2009 — after he responded to a 9-1-1 call for a domestic disturbance.

Despite the stay, saeed still faces a civil suit filed by one of the men he’s accused of assaulting.
