Clark comments on surprise RCMP wage hikes
For her part, Premier Christy Clark says her heart is with municipalities now saddled with the cost of surprise RCMP wage increases.
Clark admits the wage increases are tough for municipalities and property taxpayers to swallow, but notes the good news is, thanks to the new RCMP contract, this type of surprise will never happen again.
“This decision, I understand, was made days before the new contract was signed, or shortly before the new contract was signed, and that can never happen again….with the new contract, British Columbians and municipalities, through the province, will have a say in how these decisions get made.”
Clark says she hasn’t spoken to Federal Public Safety minister Vic Toews, but Justice Minister Shirley Bond has and says Bond isn’t happy about this surprise.
