As her first announcement for the B.C. Jobs Plan, Premier Christy Clark was in Prince Rupert Monday to pledge $ 15 million to the Road Rail Utility Corridor project to improve trade with Asia.
“A bright economic future for British Columbians is linked to opening up Asia-Pacific markets to the rest of Canada,” said Clark in a news release Monday. “B.C.’s transportation network will be the key to success.”
Phase 1 of the overall $ 300 million project will develop the Port of Prince Rupert and is expected to begin in 2012 with the construction of new inbound and outbound rail lines and extension of current tracks and facilities.
The project is estimated to create 570 on-site construction jobs and 4,000 other operational positions.
