Coroner identifies man who died after police standoff

The BC Coroners Service has identified the man shot dead by police at a standoff at the Starlight Casino.

He was 48-year-old Mehrdad Bayrami of Richmond.

The standoff lasted five hours and backed up traffic during the morning commute back on November 8th.

It ended when police shot the man in the abdomen.

He was taken to hospital, where he died 10 days later.

BC’s Independent Investigations office continues examining the case.
