The BC Court of Appeal has ruled a local newspaper reporter won’t be forced to reveal confidential sources.
The ruling comes after a lawsuit was brought forward by a former member of Parliament.
In October 2007, the Province newspaper ran a story detailing alleged electoral corruption involving then West Vancouver Liberal MP Blair Wilson.
The article, written by reporter Elaine O’Connor, used a confidential source.
Wilson then sued, demanding O’Connor reveal who had leaked her the information.
O’Connor refused — with a BC Supreme Court judge later ordering her to name the source.
The newspaper appealed the ruling — with the decision now being reversed.
