Disabled woman missing near Sasamat Lake

Coquitlam Search and Rescue crews continue their search for a missing special needs woman in the area near Sasamat Lake in Port Moody.

Joy Zhang was last seen about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

The 21-year old, who has the mental capacity of a 10-year old, was on a day trip with her caregivers when she wandered off with a friend.

“I think they became impatient waiting for them.  And then they became separated from each other when one of them decided to go uphill, and she says that Joy wanted to go back to the main camp area and wait.  That’s the last time she saw her,” says search manger Michael Coyle.

The friend was found alone and in good shape just after 11:00 p.m.
