Doyle slams special committee

Auditor-General John Doyle says it’s premature to consider a proposal to extend his term by two years, since that recommendation has not yet been approved by the provincial legislature.

But Doyle criticized the special committee that has been wrestling with the issue for several weeks, saying the process should have been handled better and has been full of “nonsense”.

“And I don’t want it to be caught up in an issue it’s john trying to get a job because quite frankly that is not important to me, what’s important to me is that I do my job fearlessly and without favour and I report authentically in everything that we do and I think that’s the expectation that citizens will have.”

Doyle says he’s still in an argument with the committee over when his initial six year term actually ends, and until that’s resolved it’s premature to discuss the next term.
