DVBIA feels scorned over bike lane turns

The Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association says their concerns were shoved aside as the city made bike lanes permanent.

Executive Director Charles Gauthier says Council ignored advice they paid to get, “Last year the consultants were hired to do an economic impact study and they did caution Council that if mitigation strategies that they had identified were not implemented, which included the right hand turn, that the impacts could be much greater than what they had pegged it at last year, which was two point four million dollars for a six month period.”

Gauthier says businesses in the two corridors will bear the brunt of losses. He says he doesn’t oppose bike lanes but wanted tweaks to help local businesses.
