Father of abducted B.C. boy eyes council seat

VANCOUVER – The father of a three-year-old B.C. boy abducted in September says he’s going to run for municipal council during elections this November.

Paul Hebert says he wanted to serve Sparwood, a community located in the province’s south-east, long before his son, Kienan, was abducted in September.

But Hebert says he grew proud of his community when hundreds of neighbours, friends and strangers volunteered to help search for his son.

Hebert says he’s not going into the election with any agenda and is looking forward to moving his community forward.

Little Kienan went missing from his home on Sept. 7 and was found days later asleep in the same home.

Randall Hopley has been charged in connection with Kienan’s disappearance. He is currently in custody and is awaiting the results of a psychiatric assessment that will determine whether he is mentally fit to stand trial.
