Former Sol Gen Heed questions government over RCMP deal

A Liberal MLA and former Solicitor-General is raising questions about his own government’s handling of the new 20 year contract with the RCMP.

Kash Heed says he was surprised to hear Attorney-General Shirley Bond claim she was blindsided by federal approval of several raises for mounties after the deal was signed.

Heed says the government must have known, but when pressed,  he blamed staff.

“…….I’m sure someone in the bureaucracy was aware of it, and failed to communicate that with some of the key people including Shirley Bond and the Premier.”

Now Bond insists government was only told about one possible raise of 1.5 percent.

“……..it came in the appendix of a document and in a phone call to staff, you know we think that consultation and collaboration means more than that.”

Bond still hopes the feds reduce costs elsewhere to cover the raises.
