A strange sight near the airport this afternoon – a funnel cloud.
Meteorologist Mark Madryga says they’re a rare sight in this area, especially at this time of year.
“When a funnel cloud is observed, obviously there’s significant turbulence in the air, and significant vertical motion or upward lift of the air, so while we’d be hard-pressed probably to see another funnel cloud, the sign that it is there means there’s considerable turbulence and I’m sure aircraft would be on alert for that.”
The cloud was first spotted just southwest of YVR shortly before 5 p.m.
