Greater Vancouver Food Bank needs more food for new year

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank says it’s grateful for the donations it’s received, but says there are still some empty spots on its shelves.

CEO Aart Schurman Hess says there have been about the same amount of donations made during November and December this year as the same time last year, but says the number of people using the food bank has increased by about 10 percent.

He says the last couple of days have been busy in terms of donations, but says they still need food and cash donations to cover January.

“The good thing is that there is a slight decrease in children that we have served, we went down from 31 percent of the total to 26 percent right now.”

Schuurman Hess says the number of seniors using the food bank is up over last year.
