He allegedly grabbed up 3 year old and now not guilty by mental illness

A man who allegedly took a boy hostage at an eastside community centre in 2010 has been found not criminally responsible.

Almost exactly two years ago, a man locked himself and a three-year-old boy inside a bathroom in the Ray-Cam Community Centre.

An eight-hour standoff with police ensued into the night, until officers stormed in when the man said he’d cut the boy’s face.

Kyle Hepworth Jackson was later charged with taking a hostage, aggravated assault, unlawful confinement, and more. He was 24 years old at the time and had a history of violent offences.

Government health officials said at the time he had had no mental health treatment within the past five years.

Now, Jackson has been found not criminally responsible because of mental illness.
