Kinder Morgan plans to double capacity

The Trans Mountain Pipeline is getting a 5-billion-dollar expansion.

Kinder Morgan has announced plans to nearly double the capacity to bring oil from Alberta to Burnaby.

President in Canada, Ian Anderson, says it means more than three times as many tankers will travel in and out of Burrard Inlet. right now, the company moves 5-10 tankers a month, “we’re estimating, based on these commitments and the locations that the shippers want to move these barrels, that we’re likely talking about somewhere between 25 and 30 barrels per month.”

Anderson maintains this will not constrain harbour traffic. He says Kinder Morgan also plans to consult with communities, landowners and First Nations over their concerns.

Anderson was speaking on The World Today on CKNW.
