Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett says the BC Liberals need renewal

Kootenays MLA Bill Bennett seems to be hinting more BC Liberal MLA’s could decide to opt out ahead of the next election.

Bill Bennett was asked by CHNL radio in Kamloops if all would be lost for the Liberals if Kevin Falcon and George Abbott both decided not to run in 2013.

“You know I don’t want to offend certainly not those two guys because they are both friends. I don’t want to offend any of my colleagues but frankly the BC Liberal team needs to be renewed. Christy CLark knows that and I support that you know if folks decide that they are not going to run I don’t think that is negative I think that is actually a good thing.”

Bennett says even he would consider stepping aside

“If there was somebody in my riding that had all kinds of energy and could get elected and who really wanted to do the job I would seriously consider stepping aside and supporting that person but there doesn’t happen to be. I think we need a lot of new people, I think we need new ideas, I think we need new energy, I think we need more youth.”

A number of BC Liberal MLA’s have already opted out including Dave Hayer, Kevin Krueger, Barry Penner, Iain Black, Harry Bloy, and Murray Coell

The next BC election comes in the spring of 2013.
