Mayors Council for Translink surprised by Lekstrom’s departure

The Mayors Council for Translink was caught off guard by BC’s Transportation Minister Blair Lekstrom calling it quits.

Vice chair and Langley City Mayor Peter Fassbender says with a new minister pending there are issues where it concerns Translink.

“There are some that are time sensitive the moving forward plan, the number one highway, some of the other expansions, finding a new funding formula.”

Those issues also include one very important to mayors South fo the Fraser, the proposed rapid buses across the new Port Mann bridge.

“I think Translink is developing the necessary plans the issues of funding of course are where the challenges are but you know we just have to keep that moving ahead so no matter who is the minister we will be advocating for those priorities along with a few others.”

Fassbender says they will be keeping a close eye on a pending cabinet shuffle in Victoria, in order to see who the new Transportation Minister will be

“We just got to make sure we brief that person as best we can on what the priority and the needs are because they are not going away.”

He says the hope is Lekstrom will help bring any new Transportation Minister up to speed as well.
