The Vancouver Board of Trade has released what it calls a “landmark” report on mental health in the workplace.
The report, prepared by the Board’s Health and Wellness Taskforce, explains the impact mental illness can have on a business, while giving recommendations on how it should be addressed.
Former MP Mary Collins says one in five Canadians will experience some form of mental illness in their lifetime, “If you look at the financial, and moral, and legal costs involved, if you don’t have a psychologically healthy workplace, we think this is really the time when employers need to recognize why they should really make an effort at improving performance in this area.”
The report is being presented to a conference of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
