West Shore RCMP say Ian McFadden has made contact with family and friends in the greater Victoria area.
Police say based on this development, there is no longer a need to ask for help in locating McFadden and his son, who are travelling in Washington State.
People who know the family say they were concerned of late by some of the things the father had been doing and saying.
