MLA: Both sides in teachers dispute are playing games

The Independent MLA for Caribou North says the fight over a mediator in the BC teachers dispute is nothing more than, “silly games.”

Bob Simpson says both Bill 22 and the choice of Charles Jago as mediator had one purpose, so the Government can legislate a contract, “So, it is no secret in the legislative buildings that everybody is not booking holidays for the last week of August because we are all going to go back in order to legislate the teachers collective agreement for the fall and I think Bill 22 was specifically designed towards that outcome.”

Simpson says the BCTF also own a part in this for playing politics and provoking the Province. He says negotiating needs a major overhaul with an assigned arbitrator with the power of binding arbitration to keep both sides honest.
