More charges laid in MV Sun Sea case

Nearly two years after the MV Sun Sea arrived off the coast of BC, more human smuggling charges have been laid.

RCMP say six men now face charges — three of whom are currently in Canadian police custody, another is facing extradition from France.

The remaining two are believed to have fled Canada, but arrest warrants have been issued for them anyway.

Superintendent Derek Simmonds says it’s been an extremely complex investigation — one that’s gone far beyond our country’s borders.

The MV Sun Sea brought nearly 500 Tamil migrants to BC in August of 2010.
