Motorcycle parking to be debated at City Hall

Could motorcyclists in the city of Vancouver see lower parking prices?

That question is up for discussion next week as city council debates a new staff report.

Right now at most pay-by-phone meters, people who drive gas-powered bikes only pay half the posted rate.

That could be dropped to as little as 20%.

Ian Tootill with MC Parking supports the move, but points out if bikers pay by coins, they’re still charged the same rates.

“So we’re looking for more parking, we’re looking for free parking… and we’re looking for where they have to regulate demand for parking in high-demand areas… we’re looking for discounted parking that’s competitive and fair.”

Tootill is also calling for some motorcycle-specific spaces.
