Parents at New Westminster Secondary have made it official: they have no faith in the school district to manage its finances.
The district has run a deficit in three of the last 11 years, with the latest hitting 2.8 million dollars.
The Parent Advisory Council has passed a motion of no confidence, and asked provincial authorities to help get things back on track.
“We are asking them specifically not to replace the board, and not to manage our finances, but to immediately get involved in trying to find out what went wrong and provide some guidance now and on an ongoing basis so that whatever is wrong in the system can be immediately identified and fixed.”
P-A-C Chair Mary Ann Mackenzie says parents felt they should take a stand, being at the largest school.
She adds programs are already going to be shut down with the current deficit, and if action isn’t taken soon, more could be cut.
