North Shore search and rescue volunteers say the past couple of weeks have been among the busiest in recent memory.
Team leader Tim Jones says most calls are familiar situations: inexperienced people caught up in the back country.
“I’ll be very, very frank with it: The “lady luck” just ran out for some of these people. It doesn’t surprise me that we’re getting these calls, because people are running into trouble.”
The team has even been dispatched to Vancouver Island to help in rescues.
And with school out Monday through Wednesday, and more people expected on the mountains, Jones says it’s an important time for parents to teach their children proper safety on the slopes.
