Norwalk virus at Surrey Memorial

Staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital have been dealing with a recent outbreak of Norwalk virus.

Fraser Health spokeswoman Kathleen Butler says it was reported a couple of days ago in three units, and it’s now contained to only one.

Butler could not say which unit, though or how many people have been affected, or what brought the virus into the hospital, “We’re following proper infection-control measures, which includes sterilizing, proper hand hygiene and quarantining any patients who have the virus.”

She says staff are monitoring the situation and will reopen the unit when it’s safe.

Lions Gate Hospital reported a Norwalk outbreak two weeks ago, three people had become ill.
