One month in jail for Stanley Cup rioter

Admitted Stanley Cup rioter 20 year-old Emmanuel Alviar has been sentenced to jail time.

He’s been sentenced to one month in jail for his role in last year’s riot.

The Surrey man has also been handed 16 months probation,  150 hours of community service, and must write apology letters to Police Chief Jim Chu and Mayor Gregor Robertson.

Alviar’s lawyer says his client wasn’t expecting to go to jail today.

In fact, as sheriffs led him away Alviar said, “this is crazy”.

The sentencing was considered a litmus test for the types of sentences that will handed to most rioters without previous criminal records.
