One suspect still at large after Surrey shooting

Delta Police are saying one man is in custody and one person is on the loose, as officers in Delta and Surrey investigate the aftermath of a targeted shooting this morning.

Surrey RCMP Corporal Drew Grainger says a 28-year old man-known to police for involvement in the drug trade-is in critical condition, undergoing surgery. He was shot multiple times this morning near 92nd Avenue and 144th Street.

Grainger says the man was driving a rental car in the area around 6 this morning when “he exited the rental car, and he was confronted be a lone gunman and left at the side of the road. The lone gunman took off in the victim’s car.”

The search quickly began for that car, a blue 2012 Hyundai Elantra. But at around 7:30, Delta Police Constable Ciaran Feenan says they started fielding 9-1-1 calls about a car on fire on Bates Road.

“Once on scene, we confirmed the vehicle was on fire and were advised by witnesses that two people were seen fleeing the scene.”

One man was arrested, and Feenan says the search continues for one more person.

And while police say there is a clear connection between the vehicle and the morning shooting, they aren’t confirming whether or not it is the missing Elantra.
