Park Board Commission says more consultation needed

A Vancouver Park Board Commissioner plans to table a motion next week in response to the massive outcry over how funding could change for community centres.

Melissa De Genova wants to see more public discussion on the Board’s idea to redistribute funding to help out those ‘have not’ centres.

This, after hundreds of people packed into the Kerrisdale Community Centre this week, saying they didn’t want programs to be cut.

“It’s my understanding that the discussions between Park Board and the Community Centre Associations resulted in a solutions that’s made (n)either side confortable moving forward.”

De Genova proposes that commissioners and staff hold public meetings at centres around the city, as well as a get a facilitator involved.

Vision Park Board Chair Sarah Blyth says she hasn’t read the motion, but adds commissioners are listening to the public.
