While Euro Cup rioters in Poland have already been sent to prison just days after their crimes, the wheels of justice move much more slowly in B.C.
And that’s according to politicians on both sides of the spectrum, on the eve of the one-year anniversary of the Vancouver’s Stanley Cup riot.
There have only been two sentences handed out in the one year since the riot, although dozens of people have been charged.
Attorney-General Shirley Bond says the police have done a great job.
“Police and the team that worked on laying the potential charges as you can see did a very good job. I mean, these are very serious charges.”
But NDP critic Leonard Krog says those court delays could let some rioters off the hook.
“I suspect that at the end of the day, a number of these cases will in fact be dismissed because of delay.”
Krog says the court system is simply underfunded.
