Port Mann construction still on standby

Construction on the Port Mann Bridge remains on standby as investigators try to determine what caused a large piece of concrete to plumet into the Fraser River Friday.

Max Logan with the Port Mann/Highway One Project says work hasn’t resumed as the investigation will likely take all weekend.

At around 8:00am yesterday, a concrete bridge segment weighing 90 tonnes fell into the Fraser as a large yellow crane, called a gantry, tilted upwards.

Logan says as soon as the incident occured the contractor closed down the site and secured it.

He adds no one was injured in the malfunction.
