Put the children first, get vaccinated

If you live in the Fraser Valley and have regular contact with young children, health officials want you to get a whooping cough vaccine.

The Fraser Health Authority is expanding it”s response to an initial outbreak last fall from the eastern valley to all communities in their region after noticing an uptick in cases.

Those, in places like Burnaby, New Westminster, Maple Ridge and Langley, “There have been three cases in children under the age of one since this outbreak began in Fraser Health. There have been about 150 cases in total and then three in that very high-risk group.”

Medical Health Officer Doctor Elizabeth Brodkin says parents should also make sure their children’s immunization records are up to date.

The shots are available through family doctors and community pharmacists.
