Putting an end to elder abuse

Zero tolerance for elder abuse and systemic reviews of service delivery such as reducing the time seniors spend in hospital waiting for community care.

Those are just some of the recommendations the BC Care Providers Association is putting forward in its final recommendations to the Provincial Government as it helps to define the role of a new seniors’ advocate.

Association CEO Ed Helfrich says long stay patients in acute care beds has been a long-standing problem, “It’s a very expensive alternative and it doesn’t provide quality of care for those remaining in the acute. So, you know, there are some options to try and help resolve that issue.”

In February the Province unveiled sweeping reforms to seniors’ care responding to a more than 400-page report on the issue by the Ombudsperson.
