Randall Hopley arrested on kidnapping, child abduction charges

The man accused of abducting a three-year-old from his bed and later returning him home has been arrested on kidnapping and child abduction charges.

Insp. Brendan Fitzpatrick of the RCMP says Randall Hopley was captured near a bible camp on the Alberta-B.C. boundary on Tuesday morning and is expected to appear in court Wednesday.

Police launched a massive search for Hopley almost a week ago after little Kienan Hebert was reported missing and officers had enough information to trigger an Amber Alert.

The boy was returned in the dead of night to his house Sunday morning, a highly unusual turn of events that Fitzpatrick says is unprecedented.

After that, the search for Hopley intensified and Fitzpatrick says investigators were elated after a dog handler knocking on a cabin door was given the indication from his dog that someone might be inside.

Fitzpatrick says Hopley was captured after making an effort to escape.
