Small fire north of Squamish

Even though it started last week, a wildfire 15-kilometres north-east of Squamish didn’t really get going until yesterday — thanks to hot and dry weather.

Donna MacPherson with the coastal fire centre says the four hectare blaze isn’t a risk to property.

“The fire is a very long, narrow stripe near the top of the mountain…it is moving upwards towards the peak of the mountain, and it is in a very remote area. There’s no roads, no people, no houses, there’s nothing near it but trees.”

A repel crew was sent in yesterday, but had to pull out when the fire picked up.

An air tanker sprayed retardent around the fire line as well.

Crews are assessing the situation this morning, before determining a new plan of attack.
