A group opposed to the installation of BC Hydro Smart meters has been dealt a setback by the Province’s highest court.
A Saltspring Island resident (Andrea Collins) and “Citizens for Safe Technology Society” were seeking leave to appeal a decision by the BC Utilities Commission rejecting their challenge to the smart meters.
The BC Court of Appeal has ruled the applicants – who believe the smart meters pose a health risk – “had not raised a substantial question to be argued.”
Hydro’s Cindy Verschoor says the decision confirms that Hydro was operating within it’s mandate when the smart metering technology was selected.
Opponents say they’ll continue to fight the installation of the devices with a class action lawsuit before the Human Rights Tribunal.
