Stabbed police dog Teak released after successful surgery

The Vancouver police dog stabbed in the neck during an attempted arrest Friday night is now out of the veterinary hospital after surgery.

Doctor Alan Kuzma with Canada West Veterinary Services hospital says Teak’s surgery went well and the dog seems comfortable.

“He’s really a wonderful dog, but he’s all business really,” Kuzma told CKNW. “He’s obviously extremely well trained. He was good in the hospital, he allowed us to do all the work we needed to.”

Kuzma says Teak was fortunate, as had the gash been in a slightly different spot, the wound could have been fatal.

The German Shephard was weeks away from retirement, but due to this incident will hand his badge in early.
