Teacher suspended over comment to gay student
A BC high school teacher who made an inappropriate comment to an openly gay student is among the latest batch of provincial discipline decisions.
Miko McGrady was suspended for two weeks in October, after he made an insensitive comment to the teen.
He later acknowledged his inappropriateness, but said it was not meant to be homophobic or hurtful.
Another teacher among the rulings from BC’s teacher regulation branch is Robert Rayond Kerr.
During a high school girls gym class, he made a disruptive student run up and down the stairs, then made her cry in front of others, saying she was being a whiney baby just seeking attention.
He agreed to a three-day suspension, with anger management and sensitivity counselling.
The same teacher was suspended for two weeks in another matter in which he tried to get reimbursed twice for costs to attend a rugby coach training session.
Other decisions include a teacher grabbing a girl’s arm so hard it left a mark, and another physically preventing a student from leaving the classroom.
